We're Swellwick
A small team on the Gold Coast building the conditions app we wanted: surf and safety in one place, for the whole Australian coast.
Our story
Swellwick started in 2021 in a garage in Burleigh Heads, Queensland. Juno Marchetti, a coastal engineer, and Tavi Brennock, a mobile developer and weekend lifeguard, were tired of checking four apps and a council website before a dawn paddle. So they built one that put swell, tide, wind and patrol flags on the same screen.
Today we're 18 people, mostly in Burleigh with a few up and down the coast. More than 250,000 people use Swellwick each month, and 40 surf lifesaving clubs run their beaches on Swellwick Patrol.
What we believe
- Safety first, surf second. If it's dangerous, we say so plainly, even when the waves look fun.
- Honest forecasts. We'd rather tell you it's flat than sell you a "maybe".
- Local knowledge counts. Lifeguards and locals know their beach. We listen.
- Keep it simple. One rating, one screen, readable in bright sun with wet hands.
Who we serve
Surfers, bodyboarders and ocean swimmers; surf schools and hire shops; surf lifesaving clubs; and coastal councils who look after patrolled beaches.
Partners
We work with volunteer surf lifesaving clubs, two regional councils and a university coastal research group, who share tide-gauge and beach-camera data with us. We're backed by a small seed round from Saltbush Ventures (fictional).
